We have come to the end of the sprint series for the 2018 year. We trust that you enjoyed the series and we wish to congratulate all the fancier who had pigeons in front.
The series was characterised by fewer losses which was the thought when we introduced the competition.
Like all competitions there were pigeons that raced in front and then on the last leg they never returned. One of these pigeons was the entry of Morné Parkin, aptly named Faith, which scored 3rd in race 1, 2nd in Race 2, 10th in Race 3 and then lost the faith and never returned on Race 4.
I am sure that it was a massive disappointment for Morné but such is the nature of one loft racing.
Then we have the winning pigeon which had a remarkable series scoring 61st in Race 1, 14th in Race 2, 1st in Race 3 and 1st in Race 4. Given the size of the arrival packs this pigeon was in the first pack from the 1st Race until the last. A super pigeon and one of three entered very late in the intake at the loft. Tonie sent 3 pigeons and all three made it to the final and returned. So the winner of the sprint series is a double winner, winning Race 3 and Race 4. You could not ask for a more worthy winner of the competition.
Then there were great performances by the birds of Saville Penkin who has supported the loft from the onset and has always done well. We know that Saville is ill at the moment and we wish him all the best for the future and God willing a speedy recovery. Saville will be selling off his pigeons on 30 September at the de Grendel Hall in Parow. If you are looking for great pigeons please support the auction.
On a point of interest we received a call from a gentleman named Mark who is on a ship heading to Oranjemund. The pigeon of Keegan January ended up on the ship which was over 520km from the liberation point. It seems that a pack of pigeons broke off the main pack and headed in the wrong direction and hence the losses on this race. We have had another pigeon return but all rings have been removed from it.
On a brighter note we have finalised the payouts for the Sprint Series as below:

Remainder of the season.
Now that this part of the season is completed we will be moving on to the Old Bird Series and the two longer races for the Young Birds.
From today I will begin sending out invoices to the fanciers that have entered pigeons in the Old Bird Series.
For the fanciers with Young Birds in the loft you have the option to enter them in the two longer races. The cost for the Young Birds is R 750.00 and the prize money will be split between the two races. The young birds do not compete with the old birds and it is a separate race.
All pigeons that are not entered will be available for entry by anyone up to the day before basketing. The purchase of the pigeon will not give you ownership of the pigeon but it will race for the prize money on your behalf.
Please support the loft for these last two races.
The first race of the Old Birds and the First longer race of the Young Birds will take place on the public holiday on 24 September 2018. We will make a day of it and invite you all to the loft for something to eat and to enjoy waiting with us for the pigeons.
Thank you for supporting Klapmuts Lofts.
