It has been a tough couple of weeks back here at the ranch and everything was technology based again, unfortunately. It seems to be becoming an annual problem every year just before the races. It is like having a flu injection, then getting flu.
We had another software upgrade in December to have all the new features, now a few problems have popped up especially with the inventory lists. But don’t despair, we are working hard at it and should be organized within this week. Problem is MI clock software needs to be upgraded as well as needing to be compatible with Benzing upgrade.
Solution is in sight.
That aside, the birds have been training well around the loft and are forming lovely 2 to 3 packs at a time. Hawks are around, but have not seen as many losses so far, touch wood. What we did have was a mid-air collision, seeing the two birds drop dead sadly. We are hoping to get the final stock list out this week.
Then on a more admin note, there are a few changes to our financial conditions.
1. Regarding the ace pigeon – on points and on velocity: after careful consideration, we
have decided that this year, having a bit more birds in the loft, the points might have
an effect on the short races,if many birds arrive simultaneously where the velocity
might be a good yard stick. Thus the prize payout should be equal – so there will be
a rearrangement of payouts on these two factors so the amounts are equal.Details
2. Secondly: We had a bit of a typing error which we never picked up on the 11th race,
the celebrations race entry fee is R1000.00 and not R500.00. We apologize for that
Besides the normal headaches and stress of getting things ready for the first official tosses, the mere fact of watching such a huge flock of birds training has been wonderful and amazing.
The excitement is building and the season promises to be one of the best ever.
