The scene is set for what promises to be a great 2018 season for Diaz One Loft. It is our 10 year celebration year as well. So far, all our preparations are slowly falling into place.
We have a record intake so far of 561 birds. The competition is going to be tough, extremely tough.
Once again, thank you to each and everyone for your support and for entrusting us once again with your birds.
We have a lot of new fanciers this year. Welcome to all of you. We hope you will enjoy it here at Diaz One Loft as much as we have enjoyed it the past 10 years.
The birds in the loft entered before February 2018 flights have been clipped and were pulled two weeks post clipping. They are all loft bound until the end of March and then their training and preparation will start in full earnest.
The babies entered post clipping have been enjoying open loft daily training and are looking good.

We will be discussing all our proposed competitions for 2018 one by one on a weekly basis in our newsletters. The first discussion this week will be the Baby Race – 4th Race Kokstad. For those not to familiar with the race, this has been a popular event on our calendar from year 2. Details are as follows : Birds entered into this competition must be 2018 rung.
Birds can be nominated out of your normal team, or specifically bred for the Baby Race which can then be put up for sale on Sunday, 1st April 2018. Birds are thus bought either back, or by the highest bidder and then becomes the ownership of the highest bidder.
All monies raised from the Auction, gets distributed as follows :

The other 90% as follows:
1. 40% 15%
2. 25% 15%
3. 15% 15%
4. 10% 15%
5. 10% 15%
The beauty of this competition which is contested in the 4th Race from Kokstad, thus a race within a race, the Breeder gets acknowledged in the success of the bird, 15% of prize money is awarded to the Breeder.
This is one of the highlights of our season’s racing and raises a lot of excitement and fun. Over the years, this specific race has lured many a new fancier to our sport as this race became his first introduction to the sport, thus helping us in achieving one of our initial objectives of luring and introducing the sport to the public.
Thus in short : 2018 rung nominated birds for auction 1st April → Auction → Race 4 Kokstad.
It has become a prestigious event of our calendar and has set high credentials on being able to evaluate and nominate a baby to compete and race well. A reminder, bird still competes in the rest of the competitions. A catalogue will be sent out closer to the time.
To those who are still to enter or nominate birds for the auction and race, please do so timeously as there are only two weeks left to close of Loft intake and thus auction great race, great competition, great support, great camaraderie and the bottom line, great fun.
Next week we will be discussing the team and knockout competition.
The tension and anxiety is building, both in us and our birds. All we want to do is race. Enjoy the build up to the season.
