The first race from Butterworth 207 km on the 10th June 2018 is done and dusted. What a great day with great gees and great fun.
The first race was incorporated with a fundraiser organized by our local Alexandria Angling Club. It was well supported and at the end of the day they raised R19 800. They are keeping a percentage of the money and the rest they are donating to a charity of their choice.
1st Prize was Gavin Stander,Ticket No. 186 – R5 000
2nd Prize was George Koutsoudis,Ticket No. 145 – R2 500
3rd Prize was Tracey,Ticket No.47 – R1 000
This little fund raiser contributed to the fun and gees of the day. It was also great to entertain our fellow sportsmen and to show care and support.
The low velocity contributed to the anticipation of the arrival of the pigeons as the wait was prolonged and made the excitement so much more intense. Well done to all the organizers.
To the more serious business. Our race itself was a great special race. We lived up to our reputation of head winds and also having all 4 seasons in one day. We were tipped off at 11h50 as some of our participants and spotters in Port Alfred saw the first few packs going over Port Alfred.
The first pack of birds, 19 in total, arrived at 12h10. The first bird in was Webster Lofts,530 EC DIAZ followed by Jacque de Coning,130 BRMK and third was Henry Quirk,2166 BDR. The rest of the packs followed in quick succession.
The birds packed in until the hard rain shower which brought a drought in the arrival of birds. At the time of writing the news letter, we were still 26 birds out.
