Once again the scene was set for an amazing day – our Baby Sale Auction, yesterday 1st April.
Taking the current economic situation and the depressed state of affairs in our country at present, you at times find yourself doubting the outcome of an event like this, but when you find yourself surrounded by quality birds bred by quality fanciers, your doubts are quickly erased by accepting the fact that quality inflicts positiveness.
Our auction surpassed all the expectations.A record was once again set. With 12 birds less on auction compared to last year, we raised the bar by R11825.00 in turnover, raising the average price per bird from R1018.00 to an average of R1519.00 per bird.Amazing, great stuff. It shows, once again quality pays.
The payouts for the race have been e-mailed and are on the WhatsApp group.
The top price was paid for a late entry by Jason Ross, bought by Mike Repapis for R8000.00.Well done Jason and Mike. The second best bird also just one entry by Webster Lofts was an amazing R6000.00.Well done Websters.Chris and Georgie Koutsoudis on average, did the best as fanciers on the auction, with the 4 birds on auction fetching a staggering R17200.00 at an average of R4300.00 per bird.
I think this might of stunned Chris and Georgie as we were doing telephonic bids.It is the first time that the Koutsoudis brothers have entered the baby auction and I still convinced them that the average per bird would be in the region of R700.00, little be known to us that the results would prove differently.Well done to you guys, shows your reputation as breeders precede you.
Next breeders doing well on average was Brad Bowen/Arthur’s Pet Shop with a total turnover of R11900.00.
Once again I would like to express our gratitude as Diaz One Loft management for the support and a great auction with great “gees”. Maybe we have set an example to our rowdy Parliament gatherings.
In the same breath, I have to mention our gratitude to our top buyer on the auction, namely, Mike Repapis. Thanks Mike for your great support and great “gees”.
What we have to bear in mind too, is the function of the Auctioneer.Accolades to Gavin Dargie, our auctioneer who always tends to be able to set a great trend and knows how to milk and setup a great situation and day.Well done Gavin.
To my admin group – great work under pressure.Well done Courtney, Gaynor, Magda and Ina.
To our Loft Manager who presented birds that were well prepared for the auction.
Every season we are aware that once the baby auction has arrived, the trend has been set for the beginning of the season. So the 2018 season has begun with a great bang. The training now starts with open loft and gradually we will start doing road training from the end of April.
The excitement is tangible and the nerves are building. We know that it is going to be a tough season.
May the best bird win.
May sportsmanship conquer all.
Good luck to all.
